Does this feel like the same type of headache you had 3 years ago? If so, have you been under more stress lately? Besides tylenol, what else have you tried to get rid of it? Have you tried any ice or heat, relaxation, massage, mediation, other things to help you relax, laying in a dark quiet room and trying to sleep?
What makes the headache worse? Do you have a fever or stiff neck?
If this headache is different from the one 3 years ago, then I suggest you get medical attention for it.
No it's actually the same its just in my temple are.. I have also tried ibuprofen , and yes I have been under more stress lately.
No fever and no stiff neck..
When I chew gum it makes it worse, like I said the aching is in my temples, and sometimes I can feel like a all od a sudden dull pain
Did you have anyone check your TMJ, also called your temporal mandibular joints? Chewing and moving your mouth can make this worse. The pain can also radiate to both temples or just one. Ice usually works best to be affected area.
You can try filling a thimble with water, putting a bamboo stick inside the thimble and freezing it inside in a Styrofoam cup supported upright. Take it out of the freezer when frozen and stick it way up in the corner of your pocket of your mouth in the hollow area where it hurts to see if you get some relief.
Sometimes a doctor will order a special test called an arthrogram to check on the TMJ joints; this is an invasive test which involves putting needles into the joint space. Before going to the six stream I would try the ice procedure first.
You can also contact your doctor and let him know that you were still having this extreme discomfort and what you have tried to alleviate the pain. Perhaps he can prescribe you a prescription pain medication.
Question for you do you grind your teeth at all? Most people if they do, do it at night, so perhaps if someone sleeps with you they can let you know if you're grinding your teeth. This can contribute to TMJ pain.
Let me know how the ice works and contact the doctor for some pain medication.
No I havent I remember whenever I got my brain/head mri they wanted too do a jaw mri to check for tmj but I never got to the jaw mri... cause I was more worried about my brain mri. So being that my headach is only in my temples what other possible causes can this be other than tmj?. I dont think I grind my teeth , but I will have my wife pay close attention to me while I sleep.
If they wanted to do a jaw MRI, then I would go ahead and proceed with that. If your wife is unable to tell if you grind your teeth at night, you can also set up a tape recording device near you when you sleep to pick up sounds of you grinding your teeth if you do.
But follow up on the jaw MRI. In the meantime for pain relief, try the ice I mentioned above.
So I went to d e.r yesterday morning and they just told me it seems like is a migraine due to my symptoms
Also I have been having muscle twitching for almost 3 years its widespread so all of my muscle twitch I had a eeg done and it was normal everyday my muscles twitch.
Did you mention your muscle twitching to your doctor? Is this doctor a Neurologist? If you did talk to him/her about it, what did they say about it? If you did not mention is, I would talk to your PCP about it since you may need labs done to see if something is causing it.
When you saw the doctor yesterday and were told you have migraines, did he/she give you something to treat it or tell you what to do?
They gave me fioricet ,, I have gone to my dr for these muscle twitching I have been teitching for about 3 yrs now they have ran all kinds of labs on me and I am clear, but they never diagnosed me... is muscle twitching with temple headaches a sign of a brain tumor?
With all the testing they did, it seems that that would have been picked up IF you had one...but if you are concerned, that is something to discuss with your Neurologist.
Did they ever check your Magnesium level in your blood?
Besides Fioricet for your migraine, you can also try laying down in a dark, quiet room and trying to sleep. Fioricet is not a medication to take every day, however. Keep track now of how often you get the migraines. If they are > 15/month, the doctor needs to know and he may want to put you on a different medication to PREVENT you from getting the headaches.
Yes ive been cheked for my magnesium level.. and doctors just tell me its stress.. but its hard to believe because I twitch everyday..
I don't understand why the e.r. didn't run a ct scan on my head
Perhaps you can discuss having this done with your PCP. You can also buy some Magnesium over the counter (400 mg) and take an hour before bedtime to help with muscle twitching. It also helps some people sleep, which may help with your migraines as well.
I don't know why they didn't do an MRI either. This is something to discuss with your Neurologist. Perhaps you can give him/her a call if the migraines don't go away.
Well I went to a different e.r last night and they did perform a ct scan and it was normal .:)
I too have undiagnosed migraines and headaches (tension, cluster, all sorts really) and throw in hand tremors. I was told I had a beautiful brain after all my many scans. The best thing you can do for at least the migraines and headaches are to chart when they happen and your symptoms. The better you learn about your own issues the better you can treat them yourself and the better a doctor can treat them.
If you have chronic headaches and migraines you should talk to your PCP or neurologist about getting on a preventative medicine. I take propranolol ( a beta blocker) to prevent as well as fiorinal as needed. It has significantly decreased my migraines and cluster headaches. By charting my migraines and cluster headaches I can catch them before they get extremely bad. This saves me a lot of time and trouble.
I hope your headaches/migraines get better. With the brain it is always difficult to get an exact diagnosis. I stay under the care of a neurologist and PCP at all times just in case I have a huge change in symptoms or frequency.
Ok thanks for your advice!
If you go online, you can download a "Headache Diary" or log to keep track of these headaches. You may notice trends on what sets them off, and this will help you and the doctors in treating you better.
I'm glad to hear that you were pro-active in you care and went to another hospital and got the CT scan (keep copies of your reports). As stated above, it is important that all the doctors and you stay in communication regarding your symptoms and your treatment plan so that you get the best care.
Hello foggy and thanks soo much for your help,, one last question , so if I had a normal ct scan of my head does that mean I have ruled out tumors? Or anything life threatening?
So today is 1 week of non stop headache. .. can a tension headache or migraine last this long?
