intracranial-pressure

Hi I am a 30 year old female who has intracranial hypertension. What I would like to know is if MRI and CT show or reveal the fact you are having high prssure? Or is a lumbar puncter the only thing to let you know if their is increased pressure?

Hi,

Raised ICP can be diagnosed by symptoms, and if MRI shows mass lesions, diagnosis can be certain.MRI cannot diagnose ICH as such.

Hi,

Yes you can say that CT scan and MRI are done to find out the cause of raised ICP and not diagnose raised ICP as such. Only LP can measure the intracranial pressure.

So when ct and mri are done they do not tell that their is increased pressure? They are done  to rule out mass lesions but do not reveal if you are having raised icp?

Hi,

CT scan and MRI are done to rule out mass lesions as a cause of raised intracranial pressure, while LP measures the opening pressure and also obtains CSF to diagnose viral meningitis as a  cause of raised ICP.
