living with a shunt

by lillyangel, Oct 17, 2007 10:36PM
My child had a dermoid cyst removed  at 15 months  of age. Hydrocephalus occurred due to infection (ecoli menigitis (meningitis))  in the  brain and  a LP valveless shunt was placed behind the right ear.  As time goes on, the shunt is more visable protruding, along with the line in which drains into the stomach.  Can shunted patients play contact sports such as football? wear baseball helmets without affecting the shunt behind the ear? and is there a website that talks about LP shunts for aquired hydrocephalus or information on living with a shunt?
