memory recall and schizencephalic cleft

by downtownbrown, Feb 10, 2009 11:57PM
My 7 year old former 31 week preemie was diagnosed @ 17 months with a "diagonal cleft lined with poly microgyria best characterized as cortical dysplasia, an area in the right posterior frontal region of a very widened sulkus"  "There appears to be cortex lining this cleft on the coronal images"  This is per the radiology report on hand.  He is microcephalic with craniosynostosis s/p CVR and focal seizures medically controlled.  My question relates to memory recall and the likelihood that my son will ever be able to recognize letters and numbers, more than a few that have stuck, and is there anything I can do to help improve this function for him?

Thank you
