my father

my father

hello  doctor

perhaps i could get some information please?

my dad is 80 - 81 and until 8 months ago he seemed relatively fine.

but i noticed things like he would ask same question several times and then not remember asking or what answer

was nor would he remember much of short term and long term are just flashes of memory

at first i thought that it was beginning of alzheimers or just general old age

4 weeks ago he went for a walk and fell on the side of his head near the left eye.  >> 1/2 inch to rear and my dad

would have been in serious trouble

i made arrangements to go see his doctor two days later and dad was immediately scheduled for am MRI

that was 3 weeks ago

the results of the MRI showed no damage due to his accident however the results of it did show that he has either

a disintegration or degeneration of the small blood vessels throughout his brain>>approx. as much as 30 to 40%

and getting worse quickly

this explains his memory loss, imbalance and light headedness and bad temper >>>he also sleeps 18 hours per

day and as i said  he is very sedentary ( no exercise at all ) he also smokes a package per day>>>does not drink

and takes no medication at all>>>>nor will i permit him to drive at all any more    ( doctor recommended this as

well  )>>

>but now he just sits, sleeps and smokes, no tv no music  and drinks coffee by the carafe and he eats well

his memory is becoming rapidly worse and his doctor says that there is no treatment or cure for what he has>>

>>not sure of the medical term doctor used to describe my dads condition,.just that there will be no recovery

period

my questions are this>>>and yes i know you can't provide accurate answers without further info which i will try to

get >>

>>but questions i have are

>>what will happen to him as he gets worse and older/?

>>can this lead to death and if so how soon???????

>>do you think he needs to be in seniors home??

>>>or have a nurse come here to check on him 2x per week??

i'm 56 and i cant continue to care for him much longer

i hope you can provide me wit some answers as his doctor is not very forth coming

thank you in advance

very much
