osteophytes and chiropractor

I was involved in car accident  a 1.5 year ago. Since then I'm in constant pain in my neck and shoulders.  Recently I've start going to chiropractor who is trying to adjust my neck. In meanwhile I had MRI that shows osteophytes on C6. My family doctor said that I shoud stop going to chiropractor and that adjustments my be dangerous in this case. My chiropractor contradicts saying it is OK to adjust. What should I do?

After an MRI found a herniated disc impinging on my spinal cord, my chir wouldn't touch my neck! It can cause permaent severe damage!  Sometimes chiro's are a good thing, and sometimes they are not. Good luck, and see a neurosurgeon.

Sometimes a chiro might help.  In some cases chiropractors do help their patients.  What you must realize is chiropractic is an alternative type of medicine.  Unfortunately, the buzz word is chiropractor and patients often don't know what other options they have.  And many personal injury lawyers will send their clients right to a chiro.  However, the first stop should be a specialist like a Neurologist.  A Neurologist will tell you what is wrong and then you have options of treatment.  These options include: medicine from the Neurologist, physical therapy, acupuncture, or chiropractic care.  But first and foremost meet with the specialist to find out what the problem is before treating it.

Many people may find that while a chiro makes you feel good, but many times it is just a temporary fix.  See a medical professional first.
