I too have been having sharp shooting pains up into the back, top right side of my head for several days. The shooting pains were targeted at my jaw next to my ear for a few days before that..then both were happening. I went to the Dr. He told me sinus infection.. gave me erythromycin 500 mg two times a day for ten days.. this is day 4 and they are still shooting up the back of my head. It makes me jerk /flinch when it happens. It doesn't matter if I'm moving my head or not but at times I move it and it happens. The muscles in my neck and shoulders are very tight. I'm not sure what's going on.. but its very painful and scary.. and I feel a little swollen in the back of my head...which freaks me out even more. Anyone have answers? I hate to spend money at the ER if there's nothing they will do for me. Help please.
the pain could be something they call a thunderclap headache. it's a type of headache that just comes suddenly then it just disappears. the jerking could just be a reaction to that pain. i would suggest that you get it checked out by a neuro just to be on the safe side. take care
