Hi,
I think there is a possibilty of nerve compression, please get yourself evaluated by a neurologist. Sharp shooting pains can be due to neuralgia. But again you need to undergo complete neurological examination.

I have the same symptoms except my pain goes down my right shoulder and arm with some numbness in my fingers.  This is due to a fall that damaged the breacheal plexus, near the right scapula in yhe back.  When that nerve complex is stretched or damaged, it can radiate the pain in either direction.  That complex/bundle of nerves sends signals down the bottom and top of the arm. up the neck, to the shoulder and down the front of the chest, down the back and around the front under the arm below the breast.  There are so many nerves in it that your pain can radiate just about anywhere in the upper right or left quadrant of your body or head depending on which complex is damaged.

Get a survical xray of the neck to make sure there is plenty of clearence for the nerves and then ask for a neurologist or neurosurgeon to examine you for damage to the brecheal plexus.  Clydene
