post-surgical pain

post-surgical pain

i had surgery on a broken wrist 2 weeks ago. a metal plate and four screws were placed in my wrist near the base of my thumb. the slightest movement of my little finger causes excruciating pain, worse than i would have expected due to just stiff muscles. do you think i have nerve damage?

Welcome to the medhelp neurology forum. Thanks for writing in. if you are experiencing excruciating pain in your little finger following fracture fixation, you need to get it reassessed by your orthopaedic surgeon immediately. It could be an ulnar nerve entrapment, nerve injury, tendon rupture, reflex sympathetic dystrophy, bony segments irritating the ulnar nerve. Please go back to the surgeon immediately. He might have to re explore the fracture depending on his clinical judgement. Try not to move the wrist and you can take some over the counter analgesics for pain relief. I hope this helps. Feel free to contact me again for any clarification.
