After a recent angiogram I was found to have two blockages in my brain, one in the right carotid artery and one in the basilar vertebral artery, both at 50%. I have recently had a Wingspan Stent to the carotid but my doctors have said that since I was not experiencing any symptons with the basilar at this time they would monitor me with this one. I am taking Plavix and low dosage aspirin at this time. The stent went fine but have since found my insurance refuses to pay because stent was considered "investigational". My question is, why are there not more stents put in brain blockages and since my insurance will not pay, should I have gone with by-pass surgery? We are appealling the insurance's decision.
