by dragon1972, Oct 31, 2007 02:41PM
i have been suffering with tingiling baby and ring fingers in both hands for a number of years now .I cannot put any weight on my wrists as the pain is awful(stabbing ) this also happens through the centre of my palms. Recently i have been getting pain in my forarm muscles too and cannot carry things for long due to this.I have havd nerve tests and an mri of the neck and brain but nothing so far . The docs have ruled out carpel tunnell and are thinking its ulnar nerve damage . Does this sound right?

Hi.

It is very possible that your symptoms are indeed associated with damage to the ulnar nerve. Common symptoms of ulnar nerve involvement include tingling or numbness at the 4th or 5th fingers, pain, and weakness of the hand.

Treatment should be aimed at identifying and treating the underlying cause of the ulnar nerve lesion. Conservative treatment would include over-the-counter pain medications, corticosteroid injections, and physical therapy. Surgery is indicated in cases where symptoms have become severe, and also when nerve entrapment and wasting have been identified.

Hope this helps.

Hi,
The symptoms mentioned by you suggests ulnar nerve lesion.
It can be due to ulnar nerve entrapment in its course upto the hand. The common site of entrapment being at wrist level followed by at  the elbow level. Nerve conduction studies will be helpful to an extent in identifying nerve lesions.

It it turns out to be an nerve entrapment, surgical decompression may be done. This is minor procedure and can be done as an office procedure.
