Honestly OCD is for life. We learn to manage it through cognitive behavioral therapy and sometimes medication is necessary. The first and best starting place is a psychologist that teaches CBT. First you need to be formally diagnosed and then you two will come up with a treatment plan. CBT works. I use it when I have problems. I cannot tell you that it will work 100 percent for you or not until you try it. There are different severities of OCD. I have been on meds and off meds. Actually for a very long stretch I was off meds and relying solely on my CBT and I was doing well. For me stress is a big trigger and when stressors in my life became too much, I had to go back on medication. Today I am 50 years old, have been living with OCD for more than 30 years and I'm really doing well. So don't think you can't live a great life with OCD because you absolutely can.
Is it possible to be OCD free after therapy? I have just been this way for 3 months. Definitely a rough 3 months
i also have self harm ocd, it generally starts from harmful thoughts towards other, then it turnes back towards you, get ur self treated with medication and therapy, ocd is not that easy to handle on ur own, because if u can then it wouldnt be that big problem.
regarding depression it is due to ocd, once ur ocd symptoms begin to get side, u will get over with depression also
I just saw your other post. Yes, our OCD brains can take up to unimaginable places. The thing is that we are always looking for control and when you think about our very existence, it is really hard to get closure on that right because it is an unknown quantity.
When OCD is left unchecked for too long it does lead to depression and when you are depressed you lose your will to fight the thoughts anymore and that is bad. I call that crisis mode. This is the time you need to see a psychologist. There are techniques you can learn to help yourself but they are best taught by a psychologist. Also, talk therapy is very therapeutic as well.
This is not something that you have to live with. There is help but you do have to seek it out.
Hi there. How long has this been going on?
