why does my 5 year old rock just b 4 bed

my 5 year old started at about 2 1/2 or 3.. rocking in the recliner from waist to head  hard.. slamming his back and head into the back of the chair.. rocking.. hy husband works nights and i stay up all night .or late.. and my son did too most nights.. does not play regulary outside..  he is white as a ghost.. and leeps with me most nights as well ..
  but when he does get tired.. he rocks.. 10 to 20 minutes  till he cant anymore...
please tell me.. help me figure this out.. thank you ...

Hi there.  He is probably stressed.  Have you asked him if something is bothering him or if he is scared of something?  Also, it won't hurt for you to take him to a child psychologist.  Rocking can be a form of OCD but it may also be something else and a child psychologist can get to the bottom of it. Most 5 year olds want to go outside and play with friends and because he doesn't, I think that is another reason to see the psychologist.  It is better to find out what is going on at a young age so that you can work with him rather than let something simmer for a long time and just get progressively worse.
