OCD?

Hi there,

I have been having extremely intrusive sexual thoughts since a young age, but I have always been able to ignore them as passing thoughts. Over the past few months these thoughts have intensified and they make me feel alienated, depressed, and anxious. I am also extremely confused and frustrated, I am having troubles thinking straight and I have troubles interpreting my emotions and senses. I am frightened these thoughts are somehow working into my sexuality and morality and that they will control me.
Is this OCD?
When I was a child I had similar problems regarding germs and religion, I would wash my hands and pray continuously and I would also have constant thoughts about family members being killed; I never saw a doctor.
If it is OCD how do I seek treatment? What is the best way to explain this to a doctor? I live in Canada, so is this covered by healthcare?
Thanks
-Jesse

Hi,
I am going through the same thing sexul thoughts and all, I was just diagnosed w/OCD on Wed the 1st but have a slew of other diagnosis like PTSD, Major Depressive Episode and GAD as a result of traumatic child sexual and emotional abuse. I am taking Ativan now  for the anxiety and I will be seeing a Psychiarist in a week and a half. The meds I know help b/c I was on them before, the Dr just needs to adjust the dose b/c now there is a diagnosis for OCD.
Cognitive Behavior Therapy and Response Therapy may help. I am starting CBT with a new therapist. It is a slow process but it does help.
Good luck, I wish you well.

Thanks for the reply, I have never been abused sexually but after writing this i went to the emergency room and was diagnosed with OCD. They started after I read a book with a disturbing scene in it, and saw a television show that disturbed me even more. I am now on medication and I start counseling tomorrow, I feel a lot better already! You are right about the medication I do not think I could have lasted this long without it! Thanks again for the reply!

How old did your sexual thoughts start? Usually in this case it could be from sexual abuse when it started at a young age.
You seem to have a phobia and it is also OCD.
I have fear of someone coming into the window.  I have a lot of crazy stuff going on, but yes I think going to see a doctor would be beneficial for you.
And I believe Canada covers everything, unlike the USA.

And the depression is part of breakdown of all the anxiety.
I know people don't care for medication, but it has been my best HELP for me to battle with OCD.
