obsessive thoughts

Ok, I have a huge fear of pregnancy. As of now I'm living with my dad, and this morning when I was taking a shower I noticed a white clump by the drain, my immediate thought was sperm. Like what if my dad ... yeah disgusting. But anyways, pregnancy thoughts are filling my head because I'm like what if he touched the soap, towels, shower curtain .. with his sperm, I hate this fear but it eats me, I've tried telling myself its not possible but in the back of my mind I have what ifs. Help -_-

Hey BetteI understand how obsessive thoughts can feel so real. I have suffered for many different obsessions over my life. The first thing that you need to realize is that pregnancy cannot happen if sperm has been out of the body for more than a few minutes. The second thing, that is the hardest is understanding that reassurance from others really won't help you overcome your fear. The only way to truly overcome your fear is to stop trying to rationalize why you cannot get pregnant, you have to ignore the thoughts when they come and not react to them. What makes these obsessions seem so real is the fact that we as suffers get so upset when we think about them, which makes our brains want to think about them even more.My advice to you would be whenever you get these thoughts try to direct your attention somewhere else and avoid getting upset when the slots come and recognize them associating.
