2nd cervical fusion

6 years ago i had an anterior C-5,6,7 fusion, giving me great relief from neck pain.  It has now returned with a vengence and the Dr. wants to now fuse above and below it (C-4,5 & C7-T1)  I'm worried about loss of range of motion, and having over 4" of my neck fused.  Do I have other options and/or can i live with this surgery?  Thank you, J.C.

Hi!
Yes, the more the number of vertebrae fused, more would be the limitation in the movement. However, with physiotherapy and occupational therapy, you can learn to do all activities. Whether traction and other manual therapies, physiotherapy and cervical collar will help you or not can be ascertained by the doctor who can examine you and can access your MRI reports. Please discuss with your doctor. Take care!

The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you. The advice may not be completely correct for you as the doctor cannot examine you and does not know your complete medical history. Hence this reply to your post should only be considered as a guiding line and you must consult your doctor at the earliest for your medical problem.
