Achilles Heel

Okay, so I had to post under surgery but in this case there has been no surgery. First, In Oct. 2009 my husband tore his Achilles heel according to the E.R. Dr. My husband was supposed to go back for MRI but didnt. Has not seen a specialist or DR. since. He is on his feet walking and climbing 10 hrs. a day. He is in constant pain even taking pain killers. His calk has changed since he  hurt it. The calf is just hanging there and awhile back he had a knot just above the ankle, now it is at the heel. He has thrown his whole body off  trieing not to put weight on the leg b/c of the pain. His heel has started hurting and also his back. I guess my ? is...What do u think is going on with the leg and do you think surgery would fix it or is it to late? He is about to his breaking point and without pain killers he cannot walk on it at all. Your answer is greatly apprecited. Thank You
