Sacroiliitus and Surgery....Any Relation of the Two?

Hello,
I have had an x-ray which revealed I had Sacroiliitus.  I have been having pain in that region, (where the pelvis and spine meet) since I had a surgery a couple years ago and it has progressively gotten worse.  The surgery was also in that region.  I had a myomectomy, and the tumor lay in the spot where I now have the inflammation, which the x-rays reveal is on both sides.  Can it be possible that the Sacroiliitus has occured as a result of the surgery?  I know that Sacroiliitus can be caused by some type of physical trauma to that area.  Your input is much appreciated!  Thank you!

Thanks so much for the information.  Yes, knowing that helps to put everything in perspective. I am being sent to a Rheumatologist so they can treat my specific case of it.  I am assuming its on the severe side since  It's gotten significantly worse over the course of this year.  So much so that if I go grocery shopping, I must lay down and rest for a while afterwards because my body can not take the standing for so long.

Hi there!

Though trauma can lead to sacroiliitis, it is unlikely for the surgery to be the underlying cause unless it directly involved the joint. Sacroiliitis is largely a feature of spondyloarthripathies and has a primary inflammatory/ reactive etiology.
Hope the information is helpful.

Take care!
