Avascular Necrosis

Has anyone experienced your hip spherical ball collapsing, I was just diagnosed with this and am worried. I will start with a cortesone shot.

I was diagnosed with avascular necrosis this week- the surgery is being scheduled as soon as possible. Mine is from a combination of cancer treatments and steroids for lung problems.  Both are risk factors. If caught early- there are things they can do- but mine was too far advanced- so I am looking at a total hip replacement.
Drilling out the ball is an attempt to try to restore blood flow to the bone...it works frequently.
Good luck to both of you...

Thanks for the info...did you get necrosis from the predisone, I do see that can cause it or do you have bad hips? I had perthes as a child and am paying for it now, I am 51 years old and have developed AVN, had a cortesone shot yesterday, praying it helps the pain..so far no side effects.  Did having the ball drilled out help at all?  I am thinking maybe I will need a replacement in time.  Hope you are feeling better.
