Hello and Welcome,
I don't know your age - but I assume you are under 18. I am very sorry to hear about your knee pain as well as the fact that you feel your pain is not being taken seriously.
I encourage you first to try talking with a parent again. Sometimes parents (I'm one) tend to dismiss our children's concern for various reasons. Approach the parent you are most comfortable talking with about your painful knee. Reiterate how you feel and your concerns. If your parent dismisses you and the pain continues approach a trusted adult, like an Aunt or a School Nurse or a School Counselor.
An x-ray will probably not reveal a torn meniscus or a soft tissue injury such as a muscle or ligament - although your medical provider may want to start with an x-ray. An MRI, ultrasound or CT Scan will offer a more definitive diagnosis.
A muscle injury can be very painful - so your mom count be right. However you may be right too - it should be medical evaluated.
Please let us know how you are doing. Remember RICE. I believe it's even taught in school and is SOP for injuries. Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation - as appropriate with the part injured. Again talk to your school nurse for specific instructions.
I'll look forward to your updates and hearing from you again soon. Best of luck to you!
Take Care,
~Tuck
