Broken Ring Finger, Stiffness Post Surgery/Splint Removal

I recently broke my finger in an accident at practice. (Basically a crush injury involving a facemask)

Anyways it broke in the middle and initially I thought it was dislocated. Turns out it was dislocated.

The ER doc tried to reset it but it was too unstable, they did the best theyc ould (photo attached) and referred me to plastics. Plastics said I might need pins or screws. Thankfully I ended up getting pins. (2 in finger, on each side of finger)

Anyways it's been 4 weeks since I had the pin surgery and they took them out yesterday and man my finger. Now if I try to straighten it it goes almost all the way but if I try to make a fist it's about 1 finger above my pinky, so not full rom for sure. And feels very stiff.

Any idea how long it will take to recover and what I should do to help? I got a list of exercises involving making fists, blocking a part and bending it down, but I can't even make a full fist yet so it doesn't really help three of the types are "flat fist" "fist" and other variants.

Also I'm fairly young so the doctor says the bone will likely regain 100% rom/function but I'm wondering if this is the case and how I can help it be so. How common is loss of ROM after these?

Pic attached.

Hi there!

It is normal for the finger to feel still after weeks of disuse. The function is expected to gradually return to normal in the following weeks. You could try using warm compresses for symptomatic relief. Physiotherapy/ exercises may be useful for improved movement.
Hope this is helpful.

Take care!

Note when i try to make a fist it doesnt curl in just goes down, as I said one finger above my pinky, the top joint basically seems connected to the middle. They bend as one.

also doctor says due to the callus it may interfere with the tendon, "bone glue" the therapist called, when I asked her if it would work itself out she said it would. Also my finger didn't exactly heal straight, it's a SLIGHT bit to the left and rotated a slight bit. Not noticeable unless you look close but still I'm wondering if this is common or a bad job on the surgeon's part or just how my bone healed?
