Broken scaphoid, had surgery, have a few questions...

I broke my scaphoid (non-union) and i has surgery a few weeks ago.

I went for a checkup and the doctor wanted to put me into a full arm cast. I refused considering it is hot and I think it would be discusting having a cast on all summer without washing my arm.

I have a brace the doctor gave me from befor surgery that i have been wearing. Attached is a picture, Does it look appropriate?

It holds my thumb in place as well as my wrist.

I take it off only to shower.

Now is it bad to move my wrist and thumb as long as i dont over stress it, meaning put to much pressure on it?

Id rather move it if its ok so i can remain good movement in my wrist.

I want this thing to heal properly!

Any comments and/or advice will be appreciated.

Thanks,
Dominick

Im assuming that i would have to literally fall on the wrist agin to rebreak it or screw up the heaing.

I still use the hand, lightly, for typing and small things.

I avoid moving my thumb though.

How difficult is it to screw this up?

Thanks usaarmymedic1

can not start moving it until 12 weeks out to make sure that the repair has the best chance of healing after that your dr is going to want you to do some therapy. the scaphoid is a hard bone to heal due to it only having one blood supply and the non union side was not getting any blood. even in the shower you need to be careful one slip and the repair can be messed up
