Constant stinging burning pain on top of foot near toes

Two weeks ago I slipped and fell down 5 or 6 tile steps.  My left leg and foot ended up under my body as I slide down.  It was pretty skinned up and bruised immediately but then the bruise faded just a few hours later.  The top of my foot was swollen and very tender.  It hurt but was just a normal bruise hurt.  Now 2 weeks later all of a sudden the top of my foot below my 3rd and 4th toe has a burning stinging pain almost constantly.  No way of turning or rubbing my foot changes it.   Sometimes it dies down but 80% of the time its there.  Why would this pain come two weeks later?  The rest of my foot is still tender but the swelling went down.
