Swellness and Numbness

I was not sure where to post this. I recently fell off my bike (2 weeks ago) I put a 4 1/2 laceration (they said abrasion) on my left food between the calf muscle and tibia (closer to the bone side). It was bleeding and I went to the ER because it was also swollen and the lower half of the cut the skin around the cut and to the right ontop of the bone is numb. Its not really swollen anymore and my ankle is a tab bit swollen with a bruise mark on the right side of the heel. My question is its scabbing nicely and itching and what not but i am worried about the numbness. The same still area which is about 3 inches from the bottom of the cut to the middle of the tibia is still numb. I went to the ER 1hour after the accident they took Xrays and gave me a tetenus shot. They also gave me antibiotics and said I would be fine. Is it normal to still have a little bit of swelling and still be numb 2 weeks after the injury even though the gash its self has a full scam now? I have never been hurt this bad so its all new to me. I am also 27 year old male. I am not sure if i need to make an appointment with my primary.. As it is now i owe the hospital almost 1grand for this.

the injury i am refering to is i guess considered the shin bone. Sorry if i was confusing you all. I went to my regular doctor today and she freaked out and said i should go get an ultrasound done to make sure there arent blood clots because i had a little bit of edema (dont know if i am spelling that right). The shin area is still swollen not really bad for 2 weeks. Anyhow the ultrasound showed nothing. They told me you need to just let it heal its gonna take a while for the swelling to totally go away because of the injury and also i might not get feeling back on the shin all depends they said. So ill just wait it out.

hi Fooz, go to a podiatrist  (food/ankle doctor) avoid the other guys, you may have just brused the nerve and make a while to heal.  personally i wouldn't worry about it being numb as long as i got feeling.  but a food doc is the best be.  i've had 6 surgeries on my foot so i got 3-4 areas that are numb.  Ice it down as often as you can stand it if swelling persist, i've had some relief with a hot and cold shock,  that apply heat   then   cold   heat   cold.  lol  good luck  Phill

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello!

The area around the foot has lesser circulation when compared to your face, head and neck and hands so the healing will be slower. Keep your foot elevated on a pillow while sleeping.
Start some physiotherapy by doing alternative dorsiflexion and plantar flexion and the swelling will subside.

Apply a mild steroid cream to decrease the scarring if you want.

Visit a physician for any complication

Take care!
