MRI report question

I was wondering if an epidural could possibly cause a L5/S1 "posterocental disc protrusion without thecal sac impression"? I have had back problems since the birth of my son and this is the MRI report on my back. I understand where L5/S1 is, but the pain actually starts around T11/T12 and radiates down my right leg. For several years it was only back pain, within the past six months it has started effecting my leg.

I remember them not being able to get the needle in my back & my husband said there were about 18 marks where they tried before finally getting the needle in.

Thanks for any info!

Thank you! None of the physicians I have talked with about this seem to say anything about the location of pain vs. location of abnormality.

Hi there!

An epidural is unlikely to be the cause disc protrusion. It would be difficult to comment on the cause of pain at thoracic level with spinal issues at the lumbar level. The radiation of the pain to the lower limb could be related spinal issues at lumbar level, while the thoracic level pain may need to be evaluated further if there are no apparent issues. It would be best to have this evaluated by a primary care physician/ neurologist/ orthopedician for a detailed evaluation and appropriate management.
Hope this helps.

Take care!
