Not so normal growth plates for an 8 year old girl

My daughter recently got a huge gash on her foot and we ended up needing to take her down to the hospital for it. They had to take ex rays of her foot and when they came back one of the doctors asked me if I had ever heard from her primary doctor of her not developing normal. I said no and she ended up telling that her growth plates look as if they are almost about to close and she is almost going to be 8 years old!! Were very worried and want to see if anybody has had to go through something similar or can give any kind of advice for this??
