Removal of tibula?

Aprox. 17yrs ago I had an accident and broke my tibula. It was fixed with a rod and 4 screws. About 3 yrs past I had the 2 screws on the bottom removed since they were tying to come out on their own. My rod never bothered me enough to have it taken out until about 1 year ago. It is the worsted after I have played a lot of tennis. Now if I play just a little bit it hurts a lot. What I my risks of having it removed after such a long time. I am a 43 year old woman.
