A single injury, and one without a fracture, is unlikely to give you hallux limitus/rigidus, especially at your age. Especially since you don't mention any redness or warmth to the area.
I suspect it is an inflamed tendon. Or possible a low grade sprain. (ligament at the joint)
Be careful on wraps. They can cause the tendons to tighten up, then you have long term problems or tears.
Rest, Ice, elevation. (compression is a wrap, but I mentioned risks)
On a side note, my family left Riga, Latvia in 1915.
Thanks for reply.
Currently my foot is swollen but no radical colour change, maybe a tiny bit redness around great toe joint.
Well, I considered Hallux rigidus/limitus before this happened because for a while I had some stiffness and pain in that joint. I looked up possibilities and came up with hallux rigidus. I just thought maybe something happened to that toe when I stabbed it years ago and over time of physical activities the joint has developed something.
For now I'm taking some pain meds and still use gel. Didn't wrap it though. Found out that elevation causes strange ache in toe, like a line from mid toe up to top. Maybe some squeezed nerve.
My general guess is that there might be small ligament/tendon rupture since this time it's worse than couple times before (had various strains before in different limbs).
Still not walking.
Waiting for swell to go down and pain to stop to be able to see doctor. Sadly mom can't drive nor has car, believe it'd ease up the whole thing.
P.s. Oh that's interesting. I know there were hard times around 1915. Sometimes I wish my grandparents had left too when they had chances. But I keep hoping one day economics will get better.
