Hi there!

Meniscal tears do not usually heal by themselves or by surgical measures. Surgery for meniscal tears is done in moderate to severe tears and aims at partial removal or replacement. Management is usually dependent on the severity/ extent of tear. While conservative management with rest, anti-inflammatory medications and physiotherapy are preferred in mild-moderate cases, surgery may be indicated in moderate-severe cases. It would be best to discuss the management plan and the expected prognosis in detail with your treating orthopedician.
Hope this is helpful.

Take care!

HI,
The management of meniscal tear will depend on the degree of tear, your age, symptoms etc. Also it depends on the extent of injury. In the acute phase of injury, rest and immobilization, hot fomentation and anti-inflammatory drugs will help. Also avoid weight bearing and strenuous activity. If the injury is light then conservative management gives a big chance of recovery. Third degree tears may require surgery. Consult an orthopaedic surgeon for a thorough evaluation.
Hope this helps.
