Tendor or Ligament on back of knee popping

31 year old avid male competitive runner. Overall good health, no major mechanical issues.

Right, backside of left knee "pops" much like knuckles intermittently. General area is where the ligament can be felt when knee is flexed.

Can not be produced on demand, just all of the sudden happens.

Does not happen while walking, climbing stairs or even exercising on elliptical machine, only when running.

Does not produce pain just annoyance that halts the running.

Started as every now only when running. Progressed to now occurring within first 1/2 mile and continues.

Stopped all running activity 3 weeks ago to try and resolve. Tried again yesterday and it happened within

If there is no pain and weakness then it's probably going to be a waste of money to see a doctor.  It may just need a little lubrication.  Maybe fish oil pills.  It may help to ask advice at a natural food store to see what is recommended. Our backs make popping noices when a chiropractor adjusts it and that is just gasses being released.(I've been told) Either way good luck with the outcome.
