Tibial IM Rod Screw Removal

Thinking about having screws removed from my IM rod because they are causing discomfort. Planning on leaving the rod in however. What would my recovery period be? I am a power lineman and I climb poles. The actual climbing gaffs strap right around the area where the screws are below the knee and at the ankle. Just curious how long I could expect to be off work, discomfort level, etc. Thanks for any info.

Hi there! I can comment on the pain level-however,I had all my harware removed-the pain is minimal & I know that they were willing to take the screws out in an office setting so must not be so bad. I would consider getting the rod out if I were you though. If you were to have an accident(especially with your type of work) you would have a real mess with that rod in. The down time is basically up to you-you can  weight bear as soon as you feel up to it-I've heard of people walking unassisted the day after surgery.-Hope this helps! Take care!
