Wedge Compression

Hi My mother met with an accident on wed that is 19 Sep 2012 and the doctor said she injured her back. She has a wedge compression at D12. I wanted to know if it can be healed with bedrest and medicines or do we require a surgery? If a surgery is not required then how much time will it take for her to recover

Hi there!

Surgical correction would usually be required for wedge compression fracture. The recovery time could vary between a few weeks to a few months depending on the clinical scenario and the exact procedure performed. I would suggest discussing the situation, the appropriate management plan and the expected prognosis in detail with her treating doctor.
Hope this is helpful.

Take care!
