Hello!
Rest and avoid exertion and movement completely for couple of days.
Take NSAIDs intermittently and continue applying ice packs and also change your footwear.
With rest and these minor changes if your symptoms continue then go for an examination near an orthopedician for a proper diagnosis.
Tear can be diagnosed by physical examination and MRIs. A proper diagnosis is essential. If the rupture is a complete Achilles tendon rupture then immediate surgery is usually indicated.
Take care!
You should see a doctor. My brother in law has this problem, for the life of me I cannot remember what it is called, but he now wears a special insert in his shoe. It is a cheap and less painful alternative to surgery. You should really have it checked out though to see if it will heal on its own.
thanks for the advice. I'm going to make an appointment to see a doctor soon. My Achilles is still stiff as ever. not much pain or swelling. Just really stiff . I cant get my foot beyond 90 degree angle to the leg. So when I walk, I cant push off the toes for that extra stretch because the tendon/lower calf area is too tight and I fear tearing it if it's not already and rupture if it is torn?????. so i've been still hobbling but changed my walking pattern to mock the normal stride as opposed to the way I was initially hobbling(hurt foot sort of sideways to take pressure off the achilles and keep it from stretching wich was hurting my calf and other foot muscles that weren't used to that screwy stride). Now I'm slowly trying to walk in the same pattern as I should normally but without the extra push. I'll take a step with my hurt foot straight-wise like normal and then keep it planted while the other foot quickly steps forward and and relieves the hurt foot of its "toe pushing duty". My muscles are not as sore, but regardless though out this all, my good foot is bearing enough weight to start becoming aggravated itself.AHHHHHHH!!!!
I'm not sure if...... I'm just not pushing and stretching it enough after 17 days of babying/staying off it and that is why its so stiff and if I just pushed myself harder with stretching etc. then I could get over the final hump so I can be on my way to walking properly. OR, I should continue to stay off of it and let it stay stiff and un-flexed in case there's a tear or something. Either way I should get to a doc. If this gives any more info to my injury.... any suggestion are welcome. An at least , I hope this helps someone else with same injury situation.(HURT BY SITTING ON A STOOL) or similar. I understand the possibility of tendon degradation that I may have not been aware of from footwear etc. that may of lead to this (Though I never felt much pain there before).
And once again, I hurt it by sitting with my foot stretched on a stool too long and stepped down to feel some achilles pain. I'm generally active, ride a bike, hike, walks, but i've been pretty inactive compared to normal through the whole winter season and until my injury little over two weeks ago.
Anyways, this stuff could keep a person blabbering for ever. It's so boring and frustrating. Thanks
