bedridden back pain 20year old

My 20 yr old grandson was in accident, both his legs are broke, one arm and he also has a brain injury. He was in a coma for 2 1/2 weeks, and he is now doing a lot better but complains of back pain. We believe it is because he's been in bed now for 2 1/2 months. We get him out of bed for PT and short trips in a wheel chair, But he says his back hurts after a few minutes in the chair. He can't even get confortable in bed anymore.  Any suggestions on what we can do to help him ??

Hi, did they do an MRI on his back?  He could have something going on there from the accident.  Other than that, it may be just bruised and swollen and when the swelling goes down, he will feel better.

Is there any way he can sit up in the bed instead of laying flat?  Maybe use one of those massaging pillows--I use them all the time.  A heating pad can be helpful also.

you might try a sleeping pills so he can relax at night when he is asleep.  could be stress of the unknown about the future and i know he isnt going to sleep like he used to. sleep does alot. once i started sleeping right i lost all back and neck pains. the pain will keep you up at night just like a tooth ake.  you have to relax to get sleep . even if he doesnt want to take a sleeping pill make him. tell him its only for aslong as he might need it. i wouldnt ever take pills. after 20 yrs of cronic pain im gladd to be able to sleep again. pills are my friend now, but the pain meds i still only take when i cant any longer stand it. hope this helps in some way, good day, heith
