difficulty getting up and walking after sitting

Otherwise perfectly healthy, 49 year old - 116 pounds. Upper legs (perhaps hips?) extremely sore and almost go out from under me when I try to stand up and walk after sitting in a chair/sofa/bed etc. Seems to be getting worse. Not tied to injury that I can think of or exercise although I've tried to increase walking to see if it improves the condition. It hasn't. Pain still hurts when walking but not as severe as when I first get up.  What is this? Used to run marathons, ski, cycle - its been a life changing problem and I'd like to find a cure. Thanks for your input.

I fully agree! There is definitely a muscular component to this, at least with my client there is. But I'm sensing there's something else underlying this scenario. I'm thinking it might be statins.

Thanks and I hope we find out what's going on soon. I'm wondering what meds everyone in this forum is taking. Everyone who is on statins please stand up! and let us know. There are studies on statins that show these types of symptoms. Very helpful to let us know who's on statins.

Statins caused these problems for me.  They almost crippled me.  Complete nightmare.   After months of doctors, they  found I am in the 3% of people that Statins can cause serious complications with walking.   No one would believe me at first. I kept telling everyone I felt I was becoming crippled.  Six months on a cane, sterioids.  Never will be normal.   Statins are dangerous as far as I  am concerned.   They are a billion dollar industry, so nothing will be done about it.

Thank you all. I'm a massage therapist and have a female client with all of these same exact symptoms. Yesterday I worked her psoas, quads and TFL. When she came in she could hardly stand from sitting. After the session she was 60%-70% better and stood much easier. I'll call her tomorrow to see if there's any change. PLEASE post if you find out anything new. Thanks MsColorado for your awesome input.

Same problem here.  I've been searching for hrs on the internet and can't really find anything that sounds like it but this thread and there seem to be no answers here.  My theory on me is that I got permanent muscle damage taking statins (google that…there's tons of info out there that statins cause permanent muscle damage).  I also used to have a lot of total body inflammation from autoimmune reactions to food.  I cleaned up my diet to Paleo and everything is better, but still I will get this condition now and then…I don't know why.  If I exercise too much I get generally stiff and this thing si worse.  I will keep checking this thread to see if anybody cures themselves.

Statins, and I also believe, Metformin causes muscle and tendon damage. Actually, it's more that it depletes your body from collagen and prevents it from healing from everyday normal use. CoQ10 and collagen are super important for anyone on statins.
