does HYALGAN work

has anyone had any real world experiance with HYALGAN (sodium hyaluronate).

i would like to know if it is effective in the management of pain due to a meniscal tear?

Hello!

Hyalgan is used to relieve knee pain due to osteoarthritis. It is used for patients who do not get adequate relief from simple painkillers or from exercise or physical therapy.

Hyalgan itself is not a pain killer it is a solution of sodium hyaluronate.  Hyaluronate is a natural chemical found in the body. Hyalgan is one of the hyaluronates used in viscosupplementation. Hyalgan is injected directly into the knee joint to restore the cushioning and lubricating properties of normal joint fluid.
Hyalgan was FDA approved way back in May of 1997.Hyalgan injections are typically given once a week, one week apart, for a total of five injections. Some may benefit with only three. Consult your orthopedician for proper suggestions.

Yes , I do agree with this.
I have treated many cases with Hyalgan with 3 injections only.
Usually 3 injections are better than 5 becoz of patient no complaints after 3 injections.
Those patients  who needed more injections after 3 shall be needing due to persistent pain rt knee & not better after 3rd injection.
