hand pain

I fell backwards on the ice today.  My hand was stuck in my coat pocket and when I fell I landed on it, palm side up.  I now have pain on the palm side of my hand near my thumb.  I can move my thumb using my other hand, but I can't stretch it out all the way from the rest of my fingers on its own.  I don't have alot of swelling or discoloration.  I does hurt more when its not elevated, and my hand feels a bit weak.  Do I need xrays, or should I just ice it and wait a few days since there is no swelling?

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello!

Wear a splint to your thumb and do not move for couple of days.

You should use some ice packs and also take intermittent NSAIDs such as ibuprofen to decrease your pain and inflammation.

You would only need X-rays if the pain continues beyond 3-4 days and with a finger splint you will not cause any further damage.

Take care!
