I have a partially healed fracture with moderate amount of marrow edema in my 2nd left metatarsal. I also have a chronic high-grade partial-thickness tear of the anterior talofibular ligament w/o significant fibrosis visualized in the anterolateral gutter. There is also very high-grade near full-thickness tear of the calcaneofibular ligament. My occupation requires me to be on my feet practically the entire work day, I deliver mail for the US Postal Service. This involves walking & getting in and out of the postal vehicle while carrying a satchel that varies in weight at times weighing up to 25+ lbs. My Dr. wants me to return to work in 2wks full duty. Do you think that is okay at this time or should I return with some limitations or give the injuries more time to heal?
Well, this decision is best taken by your treating doctor based on the time since the injury and the healing response that has occurred and is expected within the two weeks’ time. If it has already been 2-4 weeks since the injury, another 2 weeks may be given to heal and based on the response, the decision to return to activities may be taken; since recovery is very slow beyond this time. You may discuss with your doctor if measures like walking boots or crepe bandage/ crutch would be advisable.
Hope this helps.
Take care!
