Thanks for that, I'm familiar with those ailments, but in this case the toes are not malformed other than they are wedged under the sole - as if they have been bound, though not like the Chinese bound feet.

The nearest medical conditions that I can think of against your description are hammertoes or claw toes. In hammer toes the end joint of 2nd, 3rd and 4th toe is bent and in claw toes both first and last joint of the toe is bent. The toe end of the foot thus forms a wedge. Take care!
