16 yr old girlfriend just diagnosed with ovarian cancer, what are our options

my girlfriend has had trouble with ovarian cyst for about a yr or so and on saturday they removed her ovaries. Yesterday her mom informed me that she had stage 2 ovarian cancer and they gave her 4 months to live. What are our options, what can we do to fight this. and if there's nothing, what can i do to help her

First and foremost, I'm sorry for your friends diagnosis.  This is a terrible thing for a teenager to have to face.  Having said that, I don't want you to think that this is all over.  Your information of stage 2 and 4 months to live does not coincide.  Drs rarely give a time line at the outset of this disease and they would especially not give it with stage 2. There are many drugs out there to fight this disease and she is young and strong so she has that in her court.  The best way to tackle this batlte is with a positive attitude and with the strongest chemotherapy that is offered because we have our best chance of beating it at the beginning of treatment.   Its going to be hard to go through chemo but its not impossible by any stretch.  Don't give up and I wish you the very best of luck!!

I totally agree with Karen.  I am stage 3C and was diagnosed 3 years ago and intend to be here for many more years.  

Be sure she is seen by a gynecologist/oncologist .. that's all they do .. treat ovarian, cervical, etc. type of cancer.

I have a friend that was diagnosed at stage 3 and she's still going after 8 years. She went through chemo, had a decent remission time and is now fighting the cancer again. But she's strong and active, not bed ridden. Your friend can fight. Perhaps you can direct her Mom to this site for encouragement and information.

What kind of ovarian cancer was diagnosed?  The Stage 2 - four months to live diagnosis doesn't seem quite right.

I agree with the others. If her Dr is so convinced that she has no chance I suggest you immediately find another Dr with another opinion. I was diagnosed sate IV almost 4 years ago. She does need to keep a positive attitude and please see if you can find her another Dr willing to try other forms of treatment. Having an optimistic Dr helps a lot.
