8 cn ovarian cyst

I'm 35 year old woman with a past history of both unusual periods and ovarian cysts and(according to my doc who did a D/C in July and said there wasn't anything wrong with me, but I'd def had cysts before)
I have high blood pressure so they were reluctant to put me on BC pills and since I find I have bad PMS w/them I didn't argue. Since the D/C in July my periods were normal for about 4 mos then followed by long stretches of over 1 mo w/out any menstrual bleeding to one month with constant menstrual bleeding. This Sunday I went to the hospital w/incredible abdominal pain on the right side that the ER Doc at first thought was non-classic appendicitis. I agreed w/him as I've had ovarian cysts that were uncomfortable before but nothing like this. However a ct scan revealed normal appendix and an 8 cn fluid filled ovarian cyst. That would probably drain and go away but see my gyno when she gets back from India  I then went home whacked out and happy w/morphine, I had minimal to no pain on Monday. However I woke up at 3 Tuesday morning with more intense pain. Not as bad as before but still far more pain then I expected.
My questions are how can you tell if a cyst has ruptured? How long should the pain last? When do I throw a fit and ask my gynos office to get me into somebody else if it doesn't go away before she gets back. Thanks for any help anyone can give me. I've had cysts and painful periods all my life but this was a horrible new experience that I don't want to repeat and I want to treat it the right way.
Ahsas

Thru experience, I found out that cysts can "leak" and you have no true pain but lots of pressure.  I had unbelievable pressure in my pelvic area and thought it was a UTI.  When I had a pre-op u/s, i had lots of free fluid and no longer had cysts.

I have ruptured cysts for the last 12 years.  The first two times my regular doc sent me to the hospital for CBC to see if it was appendicitis.. it was not.  Few years later I had the same pain..  went for an Vag Ultrasound and a simple cyst had ruptured.... and 3 months later I had another US and it had grown so they removed it.  My pain with past ruptures was very intense for only one day..  the next day or so I was very sore from my pelvic area up to my chest -- and it usually happened around period time... I figure your gyn will order an vag US when she gets back...  I never experienced rupturing a cyst without being around period time.. so I hope you will be fine till she gets back.

Thank you both, that was very reassuring. and today I still don't bend at the middle very well and standing and sitting take a long time, but it's def more of an ache now.  I will def be asking for the V/US when the Doc comes back in late feb.
