Instead of the Ascites being constantly removed, they have a small tube that stays in the abdominal area,so it always drains, its not so bad.God Bless,Jen
Hi, I think the discomfort/pain is coming from the fluid build-up causing pressure on the stomach, lungs, and bladder, other organs, which causes the "fullness" feeling, and no apetite, shortness of breath, etc.
I am not familiar with the omentum caking, but I looked it up and found this site :

very well could be, I do know that with my moms surgery, they took the omentum out, because the cancer cells like to thrive there, its like an apron for the abdomenal cavity... hope this helps..!!! Let us know how she is doing today!
Is the discomfort/pain from the omentum caking that is what the oncologist sasid?
Yeah, I would take her to the ER as suggested by the others, I know that my Mom had tremendous releif when they tapped hers. Hang in there honey!! Your doing great! You will learn so much here at this forum!
I agree with Ramsay. Ascites is caused by the inflammation from the cancer, and nothing short of chemo or being tapped and drained is likely to relieve it. As in your mom's case, it can increase quickly, and can get to the point where it impedes breathing, let alone being uncomfortable. I hope your mom finds some relief soon!

If I were in your shoes I would take mom to the hospital and ask them to tap the fluid. They will probably give her some stronger pain medication as well. There is just no reason for your mom to suffer when there are things that can be done to help. Your mom is lucky to have you. It is very hard to advocate for yourself when you are ill.
