lack of confidence in gyn

Do I have a reason to be apprehensive?  Last week I described my symptoms of right sided pain, elevated platelets, elevated CA 125, bloating, bleeding (spotting) all month long and a TV US that showed a 5cm possible endometrioma, normal uterus and a 2.5 cm left paraovarian cyst.  I saw a GYN for the first time this week and she didn't think that the bleeding and the cyst had anything to do with one another so she recommended removing my right ovary and doing an endometrial ablation while I was under anesthesia.  She was fairly certain from looking at my u/s report that I didn't need to worry about cancer.
I kind of pressed her with a 1000 questions and she then thought about it and recommended a vaginal hysterectomy and right oopherectomy.  But even though she recommended those procedures she decided to do an endometrial biopsy anyway.  After the biopsy she said that since I had my period those biopsies wouldn't be very helpful anyway.  That was a pretty painful procedure for nothing don't you think?  She hasn't done much to calm my fears.

Trust your feelings regarding the gyn.  do you think she did things because you pressed?  I ended up with a stage 3 ovca because of a gyn who didn't do any testing on a new patient and I let him.  You can go to a gyn/onc for a second opinion and piece of mind.  Good luck

Okay...if you are a nurse you know better than this......get another doctor....why did you allow her to biopsy the cyst in the first place?  Get another doctor.....no question about this......this is not a spin the surgery situation.......you know you need someone who knows what the hell is going on.......why not see a gyn/oncologist like you know you should?  Common'.....get this right......see a gyn/oncologist.
Peace.

When your gyn is a joke you must get a new one!  Get second and third opinions!

I think I may have spoken to you in the Ovarian Cancer Chat room yesterday b/c you said you were from MedHelp.  If you live in Ala.  I would recommend seeing Dr. Mac Barnes' group.  They're the best gyn/oncs here.

Hi , you really must get this sorted out , get another opinion if you are not confident , You have to trust your own instinct as you are the one responsible for your body . I let doctors mess me around for 18 months  keep sending me away with different explanations for this and that , I regret that  now . Good luck and take care -Silver

I live in Minnesota...I think you may have sent me a list of all the gyn/onc's in my area.  Thank you.  I needed a referral to get to one.  I'm going to have a repeat ultrasound and I am going to ask to see a gyn/onc...there are a couple that are covered by my insurance.  I was depressed prior to all of this health **** and this is just adding to it.  I've been a RN for 17 years, but have no experience with women's health...I just can't believe how unbelievably unsure of myself I have been.  I would advocate for my patient much better than I am doing for myself.  Thanks for your support.

The way I see it, the endometrial biopsy (NOT biopsy of the cyst) was warranted due to the continuous bleeding. That was the responsible thing for her to do and I don't think it was a wasted procedure. Paraovarian cysts can originate on the tubes and can be common and are usually benign. The sausage-shaped ones IN the tubes are the ones they worry about. I don't know how elevated your CA-125 is but remember it can be elevated for other reasons, namely endometriosis. Seeing a paraovarian cyst could also be from the endometriosis.

Unfortunately nothing will calm your fears but a pathology report. That's the nature of the beast in these cases. If you don't mind losing your uterus and ovary, why not just do it rather then go through problems over and over?
