Thanks for the information. Glad your doing well. I know I'm in good hands because the slides are being sent to both John Hopkins and the head of gyn onc at a Univ Hospital. I think just the waiting is hard. I'm not too concerned, though, it really does sound benign, even at stage 2B or 2C, which is where I think I'm at. The pelvic washing showed groupings of atypical cells. I don't have any other pathology yet. Just praying it is the noninvasive type. Will let you know. They told me it could take two weeks for the path to come back. It's been one week already.
I was diagnosed with APST (Atypical Proliferating Serious Tumor), borderline, LMP in January 2009. No chemo. My tumor was in my right ovary and in the third washing hence I was staged 1C. I am going to my gyn oc every 6 months (in fact, tomorrow) and eventually will only have to go once a year. I also had a TAH/BSO and removal of the omentum.
He said he's never seen a recurrence of APST in his 30 years of practice. It's important that you know what kind of borderline you have (I'm sure they will tell you when all the pathology reports are in). It took about 3 weeks for my doctor to have all the info after my operation.
Good luck! Sounds like you will be fine.
I'm going to get a copy of the op rpt and pathology rpt on Monday when I go get the staples removed.
I'm glad you doing well. My gyne is referring me to a gyne oncologist at a major University Hospital in Chicago. I know I'll be in good hands. But I won't get my questions answered for at least a month when I meet with him. I'm just puzzled that the tumor was on the omentum and bladder.
Thanks
Hi, I had a LMP borderline ovarian tumor. I didn't need chemo - you are correct that it isn't recommended for this type of ovarian cancer. My tumor was within my ovary and it was also within my fallopian tube. It was not attached to anything else. Everyone is different. It's very good that they are sending it out for a second opinion and JH has (or did not sure if he's still there) a specialist in borderline tumors as the pathology can be tricky. I would ask for a copy of the current pathological report and a copy of the second opinion just for your own records and so you can see what it says for certain. You should ask to be referred though to a gynolocologist oncologist - they are the specialists for gynolocogical cancers and not just a regular oncologist. You want someone familiar with or who has patients with LMP borderline tumors as they are rare. I would do some research on gyn-onc in your area and find out which would be a good one to be referred to. I've found the best people who know are nurses or even receptionists in gyn offices. They seem to know who is good.
By the way, I was diagnosed in 2002, had follow-ups every 6mos for 5 years and have been good ever since.
Good Luck and keep us posted.
