painful ovarian cyst with calcification

I have been having pain in my lower left side around my hip and lower back ache, diarhea, constipation, nausea, dizziness, hair loss, feeling full after not eating much.  I have been bleeding for 4 months straight.  Dr. did sono, results unremarkable, small cysts on each ovary.  Got 2nd opinion due to increased pain/bleeding/bloating/weight gain (30lbs)  Cysts had grown, changed shape, and had calcification and stuff floating in them when I was looking at the screen and talking with the sono tech.  Put on birthcontrol, taken it for 1 month so far, bleeding has not stopped.  Dr. wants to repeat sono in 3 months.  Im worried that waiting is a bad thing, especially since there was a big difference from the 1st sono to the 2nd one, and they were about 2 or 3 weeks apart.  Any suggestions, comments, etc.  Im worrying myself sick.

Thank you for your feedback.  I have had a regular sono (two cysts looked nice and round and fluid filled).  2 weeks later I changed doc's b/c the first said nothing wrong/dr. report unremarkable.  2nd doc repeat sono/transvag (this one showed change in shape/size and myself and the sono tech saw "floaty" stuff, kinda whispy lines and on what I think was the top, a thick white line which I asked the tech if it was calcification, she said more than likely.  Doc read report, had nurse call, sched. appt for 3 months and advise to continue taking birthcontrol pills.  didn't recommend anything for night sweats, pain, etc.  I kept calling the nurse, and she did call back with the Dec 11th appt which turns out to be just 3 days shy of a full month from the last sono.

Last night while sitting on the sofa folding clothes, I noticed the same dull ache on my right side now as well, this morning it has eased up, but my left side is a continuous pain with no relief.  Also as I sit here typing this message, I am having contractions in my lower back and up my spine similar to labor pains.

I am going to call today and request an order for the CA-125 and hopefully they will order  it for me.

Thanks again ladies.

I fully agree with Diane and Casey.  And I LOVE Diane's statement "no more nicey nice."

Call around and see it you can get in sooner with someone else even if you have to travel.

And if you wait till December 11th---please call them ahead of time and request:
a transvaginal ultrasound WITH a CA125 test. In fact you could get that CA125 test this week.

Another option is that if they don't have time (which is sick), have the doctor write out a prescription for an ultrasound and it can be done at the hospital.  Or your primary doctor can do that.

Also I was thinking your name was cool---meaning the alcoholic drink.  Now that I know what it really means, it makes me feel how desperate you are having this pain and having very abnormal symptoms. You have cancer in your family so obviously you are very worried. So sorry to hear your parents died young.

And when you see a doctor say this------"Prove to me that I don't have ovarian cancer".  A very well respected gyn/onc recommeneds that to women.  He said that will help.

Good luck with all this.

Find a new doc...seriously. Call and find a gyn onc now, don't wait. Tell them your story and see if they can get you in sooner. Again, I am not saying this to frighten you, but they are best at checking out problems like cysts and excessive bleeding and such. They are also excellant surgeons, so if you go that route, they are best for that also. They don't just treat cancer, but they also aren't preoccupied with baby delievry stuff either.

They told me that is the earliest appt. I can get, that the dr. is "on-call" that day, but is willing to come into the office to see me.  BLAH!! I told the nurse that it dose not make sense to me to just "wait and see".  If the ovaries or cysts need to come out to "make sure" it is not something serious, so be it.  Yes, I would like more children, but God has blessed me with 2 already.  I am thankful for that.  I just want to make sure or do what ever possible to stay around to watch them grow.  I am 30 years old.  5'9" 280lbs.  Just had a baby.  My symptoms are relevant, it is not just because of my weight or recent childbirth.  I am angry at the fact that the dr wont listen.  I will put my faith in the Lord to carry me thru until Dec. 11th, but if the dr. ain't on the same page with me, I am going to request referral to gyn/onc for a thurough check over.  I'm not sure I mentioned the fact that I had a breast biopsy (benign tumor) when I was 20.  My mother died of pancreatic cancer when I was 2.  My father when I was 9 (bone, blood, brain, lung...by the time they decided to do a blood test, instead of continuing with chiropractor).  My grandmother (breast cancer) a few years ago. And my aunt on my mom's side (hysterectomy- was the only thing anyone talked about in reference to why she passed on.)

Ok.  Thank you for listening.  You are appreciated.

** i know my screen name is kinda gruesome, but that is how i have been feeling for about 5 straight months now.  I should own stock in Tampax/Stayfree :) :) :)

Don't even wait until Dec. 11, call them and tell them you want to be seen ASAP. Demand it and don't back down.
I don't say this becuase I want you to panic. Just, enough is enough already.
You only get what you ask for and if you don't mind waiting, they will let you wait forever.
I learned that nobody is looking out for your interests...but yourself.
Medicine has become a business and there are very few doctors who know when to take appropriate action , especially when it comes to female issues!

Like Diane says, no more "nicey nice"!

Good luck and keep us posted, but these symptoms should not be ingnored.

The doctor's office called me this morning.  Now they want me to come in Dec. 11 instead of in 3 months.  Does this likely mean that they took another look at sono report and saw something worse than the first time they "glanced" at it?  Will taking the birth control that they prescribed (I am on my second month pack and bleeding/ pain on left side has not subsided) reduce size, or prevent growth of or more cysts from forming?

If I were you or you were my daughter I would simply refuse to wait any longer....that is a bunch of hooey.  I would suggest you go in and talk with your doctor.....if he won't listen to your concerns and act on them immediately I would simply take all my records to another medical team and get the much needed relief and answers.  Waiting is not always the answer and it sounds as if you have waited long enough.  Find a medical team that hears what you're experiencing, what you are worried about and will take some action ......no more nicey nice.....time to be your own advocate....go get 'em kid!  Let us know how things turn out.
Peace.
