Can Ovarian Cysts Cause Anemia?

I was wondering, do any of you have any experience with anemia that you believe was caused by ovarian cysts?  Is that possible?  Yes, I have heavy periods from fibroids, but not always, and I have had heavy periods for years without getting anemic.  I take apo-ferrous gluconate 300 mg (since Nov) and I am still too low.  A symptom of ovarian cancer is anemia but am hoping that mine is just from the fibroids...?  Incidentally my gyn read my US over two months ago and said "These 2 complex cysts on your ovary are not cancer".  I thought that was interesting after reading some of your posts, that is, I know now that doctors really cannot tell that for sure until removing them.  It's hard because I have the two things going on, fibroids and cysts. I gotta quit thinking so much, surgery Friday anyway but just wondering.. I had a colonscopy to rule out colon cancer, it was OK.

PS I read Harry Potter before going to sleep and I had a nightmare that Dumbledore was doing the surgery! Good grief

Mary, Tascha, everybody
You guys are such a life line to me. I have no sisters, but no kidding are we ever Sisters here eh!  I suddenly realized that over the years, I have rarely met with other women who suffered from fibroids, cysts, etc... I never had anyone to talk to about these issues.  I love the way you guys are so frank and open and honest with stuff, it helps so much.  For the most part I have just read books on my own.  My mom has always just said "Well I never had any problems"  (thanks Ma)
You're right about taking responsibility, this site helps women take charge for their health as best as they can (in a constructive manner!)  And I love the sharing!  You rock!
Lots of love,  Sista Katie  :)

I did not know that anemia was a symptom of Ovarian cancer.  I would think that your fibroids and your cysts could also cause you to be anemic.  That was cute about Dumbledore.

Wow, Harry Potter before bed, how brave!!  I think that with the heavy periods that you have had, and the way anemia works, it could take a while for your level to be right.  Our ovaries can cause so many symptoms when they are not functioning for one reason or another.  Please keep us informed.  You know, Dumbledore could be better than some of the drs. we have dealt with!  You are in my thoughts and prayers.
