Complex Lesion mixed

On a follow-up visit to my ob/gyn for a pap (3/05 came back abnormal) showing atypical glandular cells which prompted me to have an endometrial and cervical biopsy.  Both came back negative and this last pap was normal. So Happy.
During this last visit I explained that I had been experiencing pelvic pain (especially ovaries and pressure especially during last mens).  He referred me for a pelvic & TV U/S.  Results showed a 2.7cm complex adnexal lesion on my right ovary with mixed solid & cystic components. Had a CA-125 and it was normal now I am waiting for 1/13/06 for a follow-up U/S (taking forever).  I did get very nauseaus after the U/S.  That has never happened to me before (had 4 in past 8 yrs for fibroids)

Two Questions:  1) I know paps do not detect ovarian cancers but could it be possible that my abnormal pap was telling us something else?  2) How likely is it that the lesion will still be there in January and will have to be removed?

Look forward to hearing back!

I know exactly how you feel with the symptoms and the horrible waiting & not knowing.  But unfortunately we do not have a choice but to wait it out.    Good luck to you.   Keep us posted!

I think it depends upon how heavy a person would beas to whether or not you  can see it.   I can feel my left one but not my right yet my right appears bigger on u/s.

I am new to this site.  About a month ago I started having symptoms of a very bad bladder infection.  It started the night before Thanksgiving and therefore I didn't do anything about it until the Monday following the holiday weekend.

I went to my Gyne's office and they did a urinalysis and culture.  I thought for sure I had a UTI.  Both tests came back negative meaning no infection.  I continued to have symptoms for the next week and went in for another urinalysis....again negative (no infection).

My symptoms didn't go away and I started feeling a low of pressure in my pelvic area..not so much the burning when I urinate but pressure which caused me to have to run to the bathroom.  I had absolutely no control and would even leak sometimes if I couldn't get to the bathroom right away.

I went in a week ago and saw the nurse practicioner.  By this time I was having some pain on my lower left side.  She mentioned a prolapsed bladder but it turned out she was able to identify the pain with the left ovary.  Then everything hit me at once.  I have two Aunts (My Dad's sister and Mom's sister) that were diagnosed with Stage 4 Ovarian cancer.  They each also had cancer in the colon.  Neither Aunt survived.  This was two years ago.  They were diagnosed a couple of months apart.  My grandmother (Mom's Mom) also died from Ovarian and colon cancer.

The next day I went in for an internal ultrasound and they found that I have two complex cysts on my right ovary and one on my left.  By this time I was also experiencing pressure in the rectal area.  My doctor wants to make sure the colon is clean before she does another U/S.  I am scheduled for my second U/S on January 9th.  I'm sure she is just being cautious which I appreciate very much.

I had pain a couple of days ago that was so bad I nearly doubled over.  Since then I have had no pain.  I now have indigestion and feel bloated.  Don't have much of an appetite as I feel really full real quick.

This is driving me crazy.  My symptoms keep changing and with my family history I am really scared.  My family doesn't understand and they think that I am over-analyzing the situation.  Everything I've read is telling me that this could be really serious.  I had a CA 125 and it came back negative, however, my doctor doesn't seem to believe in this test very much.  She left it up to me as to whether or not I wanted it.

This has just hit me like a ton of bricks.  I'm trying not to think about it and enjoy the holidays but it keeps coming back to remind me.  This is so scarey.  I had a hysterectomy a couple of years ago due to a large fibroid.  They removed my uterus but left my ovaries.  This was right around the time my Aunts were diagnosed.  Not sure why I let them leave them in.....

Thanks for the response.  Sorry to hear what you are going through.  As you might have read my next u/s was going to be 1/13 but I had to move it up to 12/29.  The waiting is horrible and I am sure especially for you.  I hope all goes well.  You are in my prayers.

After reading all the posts on this site If my Dr does not recommend removal right away I will.

Is it unusal to see swelling on the outside of my pelvis where the lesion was found (right ov)?

Thanks to everyone!

I had a gyn say that insurances like for them to watch cysts for 2-3 cycles to see if they will go away.  The chances of a complex cyst going away is slim. Functional cysts go away and  are not much to be worried about because they are coming with monthly cycles and going away.  Complex cysts are generally termed nonfunctional and usually do not go away.  My personal experience was this:Aug had pelvic u/s (no transvaginal)found cyst on left ovary fluid in cul de sac.  Gyn said wait two months had reg and transvaginal u/s Oct left cyst persisted and found the piece of debris was actually a solid mass and the fluid they saw before was really 7.7 cm right ovarian cyst.  The gyn still wanted to wait two months with 2 cycles of birth control pills.  I said no way take it out.  He referred me to a gyn/onc and now I am scheduled for removal of the left ovary on Jan13.  At this time they will take my uterus and try to resect my right ovary unless all looks abnormal.  If you are tired of waiting ask to have it removed and preferably by a gyn/onc.  Regular gyn must have a general surgeon with them if they do an abdominal hysterectomy(double surgeon bills).Keep us posted!!

Thanks for the reply Mary V.

If the lesion is still there when I go for my next US and it is still the same size should I expect that my Gyn will recommend removal or another US?  I don't think I can go through another 6 weeks waiting for another US.  I rescheduled  the date for my next US.  The first one was on 11/22 and my gyn wanted me do a follow-up in 4-6 weeks.  Six weeks will run into my next cycle.  So instead of 1/13 I rescheduled for 12/29. Have you ever heard of anyone getting nauseaus after an US?

You are right about the waiting.  It is unbelievably difficult.

I am still having pelvic pain especially on the right side of my pelvis.  I keep feeling my ovary to see if it is still the same size.

The only thing that is helping right now is the Holidays and keeping busy.  Sorry about the venting, but it does feel good!!!  Thanks for listening.
