Well, the vertict is in. I only had to see three doctors.  I have a 9 cm dermoid cyst on my left ovary and a 8 cm dermoid on my right ovary.  Because of my age (22) and the rareness to ahve them on both ovaries like I do,  My ob/gyn is going to perform a slightly more complex surgery, like a c-section almost, in hopes of saving at least one of my ovaries.  She said that if I were older and had already had had children she would not do this proceedure and simply remove my ovaries altogether.  My surgury is tentivly set for the 9th of December, right after finals are over.  She also said that in only like 1% of the cases is what I have malignant, so that is not really a concern for me.  Thanks for all of your thoughts and support!  I will keep all of you updated if there is any change!

Hey Jampa, I will keep you in my prayers.  I hope that everything turns out alright on your test.  I know it is hard to try keep your focus on something else, and not to worry about what all is going on with your body.  I know I had that problem when I first found out I had a cyst.  I just tried to keep myself busy.  God knows your strength and will not give you anything you are not able to handle, and he has got his plan for you and all of us.  Let me know when you find out your results.  Just remember if you ever feel your strength is running out, you can find it in God and in close friends.  God Bless.  Shelby769

Hi Shelby   I had the sonogram on 8/17/05.  Wont know the results for a bit.  The technician that was doing it asked me if another tech ccould come in.  I thought maybe my tech was new.  When the other came it, I felt like they were code talking.  Imay be reading inot this.  I cant do anything about it so I am trying not to worry.  What God has on his platter for me, I know it is his plan.  Anyways, I will keep you posted.  Thanks for the response.  Jampa

it is a hard decision to have the biopsy.  have you had your doc explain exactly what he would do when he did the biopsy?  kinda like a step by step explanation.  that might put your mind at ease and help you make your decision.  how are you feeling?  are you having any pain associated with the cyst ? keep me posted on how your appointment went, it was today right?
hope it went  well, God Bless.

hey boofer214, i am a nurse, and knowing what i know about the whole medical stuff, and having all my books as resources is nice, until i was diagnosed with the cyst.  then i started worrying about it, but when i went to the gyno she said that she wanted to watch it because of my age she felt that it was benign, so i have to go back in 3 weeks now to have another sonogram.  i was sso worried about it, and kept thinking about everything i had read, but my gyno said that most of the time in women of a certain age, these cysts will go away on their own.  i am still having a lot of pain though.  esp at night, when i lay on my left side, i start to get sharp pains in my lower abdominal pelvic area.  i am assuming this is due to the cyst.  do you have an appointment set up already?  let us know.  God Bless

I am 22 yo and was diagnosed with a Large complex OC on the left and smaller one on the right.  Could this be cancerous.  My mom is a nurse and her mother dies of cancer and she herself have cysts in her breasts but I think that she is trying to sugar coat it for me and herself.  How serious are we talking.  There were other posts where the women were talking about Hysterectomies and ovaries removed.  Like i said I am 22 and would like to ahve children some day.  Is this a common prectice?  I know that laproscopies and others can be done so I was just wondering what could happen.  I am still waiting to see my Gyno but I have had x-rays and and an ultrasound.

Hi  I am posting here for the first time.  Okay today I went to gyno.  I had a sonogram about 6/2005.  There was an adnexal complex lesion found.  When the gyno was talking to me he told me he was going to do a biopsy and it would hurt.  I was not aware that I was going to be having this.  Anyways I thought I was in there for a consult.  It is 4.5 x 3.5 x 2.2. He told me that 1 in 200 people would have cancer from this and not to worry. He kinda gave me a choice of having the biopsy or not. I opted not to because I didnt want the pain and I was kinda not prepared for this.   I got the impression from the Dr. not to worry and this was probably nothing.    I guess what I am asking is should I have done the biopsy or not?  What are the chances of this being anything.  I am 46 yrs old and really am not worried about this.  But in reading this post it sounds like I should be more concerned.   Help.....Thank you

well guys.  i went to the doc yesterday.  she decided that it would be best to wait and have the Ultrasound done again in 4 weeks.  so i have to go back and have that done.  she seems more worried about the pain i have with it.  put me on some rx, and that was it.  said she was not worried about hte cyst so much as being malignant, but more that it was caused by endometriosis.  maybe endometrioma, so i guess we will see.
JAMPA  if you do not want to get the biopsy done, then i would probably see if he will let you have another ultrasound done in about a month, that way if it has changed in size or anything you will know what you need to do.  the biopsys can be painful afterward, but i would much rather have that kind of pain and know whether there is something wrong than not to have it done and then something be wrong.  good luck to ya, and we will be here.
thanks to all!!!!

hi guys. well I am a 26yo cardiac nurse, and was just diagnosed with a complex ovarian cyst on my left ovary. I was a little frustrated because I have been looking on the internet trying to find out as much stuff as I possibly can on this issue. My question to all of you is when you found out did that you had the cyst, did the docs want to get agressive? I have 2 small children, and I love them like nothing else in this world. The only concern I have is that the docs are going to try to play the watch and waight game and order more tests, and I am all about being aggressive. Please let me know.
And to those of you scheduled for surg tomorrow, may God bless you and watch over you. I hope your surg goes well and everything is alright. thanks! shelby769

My doc thought I could watch and wait but I told him "NO".  So he ordered me the CT scan and I asked and received the CA 125 test.  Since he has to remove a prolapsed uterine fibroid , he and I agreed that he would also go in and take my left complex cyst out at the same time.  I will have the laproscopy this month but don't have the date yet.  I want it all behind me but Im scared too.

i guess my problem is that everything i have found on the internet, which isn't much, all says the same thing.  complex septated is more worrisome.  just knowing that something is inside my body that is "worrisome" needs to be out NOW.  I go to the doc tomorrow to talk about what we are going to do.  I hope we get it done soon.  My husband and i just moved to houston from lubbock and all my family lives in lubbock, and i have no one to help me with the kids.  expecially since my oldest starts school on the 15th.  thanks dana anne for responding to me.  it is nice to speak to real people who are going through the same things.

well I told Doc i didn't want to do a watch and wait thing and he said then we can do a better test and ordered the CT Scan.  So apparantly the CT Scan is inferior to the pelvic and transvaginal ultrasounds?  Why'd he order it????  I was hoping it would show more stuff and maybe a malignancy could be ruled out.  I hate to have to have surgery but I don't guess I have a choice.

My doc followed up with the CT scan.  I had the ultrasounds first and they found the complex cyst on my R ovary. I feel like I drank that barium for nothing and I am STILL constipated from it and it was done last Thursday !!!

Hi, I just read your post ,I too just turned forty and have had laprotomy 1x 3 months ago for pelvic floor prolapse and removal of left ovary with cyst on it, and now they are going back in laprotomy style to remove a 6cm complex cyst on right ovary and the ovary ,my surgery is scheduled for 8-9-05 also ,my uterus was taken out 7 years ago ,so this is it for me hopefully .My Dr.told me she is very doubtfull that mine [complex cyst] is cancer .But I was certainly scared for a while .But  I had to realize is that I am a mighty Women of GOD and fear is not of him ,and every time I get scared ,I call on him .Hope this gives you some help. My Dr,also said that she will have a general on surgeon on call in case it is cancerous so the staging can be done at that time .

Yeah  tell me about it.  I will be 43 in Sept and I feel like my body is getting revenge on me or something.  You are doing the right thing getting in getting it taken care of and I hope very much that your back pain and blood in the urine is nothing serious too.  I was hoping that the CT scan results would definitely shed light on the type of cyst it was.  If it doesn't then why do we have to get it done??  I want to hear what type of cyst this is tomorrow but now I feel like the doctor will say oh we just don't have a clue, it could be the pillsbury dough boy for all I know. Good luck to you and keep us posted!

Hi,I agree with you what good is the CT ,because they allways follow up with a sonogram, usually vaginal and that gives a better idea of the type of cyst it is and the size and every thing .

They are cutting me open!!! Of course, when I do it, I do it GOOD!!!  My CA125 was within normal limits, the ct scan said ovarian neoplasm, but the doctor said we won't know really until they get in there.  I have had such peace, but satan is trying to steal my joy and fear is trying to come in!  I only have a fwe more days.  As posted earlier, I have blood in my urine and have suffered from back pain for the last few months, so I figured it was from my cyst, but now...who knows!!!  I just turned 40 and my whole body is falling apart!!!

hi
Apparantly it is a cyst with septations or walls in it with liquid and solid components.  They say it is more "concerning" than a simple cyst (but not time to push the panic button yet) which are always benign and filled with fluid with no walls in them.  Only way to know for sure is to have it taken out and sent to pathology.  Are you having the laproscopy or the laparotomy?  YOur cyst seems larger so thought id inquire?  I have a complex cyst on my right ovary about 2.0 cm and I get the results of my CT SCan tomorrow and Im nervous too.  My CA 125 was 12.7 but we all know how unreliable that is so Im imagining the worst and I shouldn't.  It could be plenty of other things besides cancer but we have to get that ruled out because these cysts are more concerning than the generic simple ones.  Hope this helped just a bit.   Dana
