Complex echoic cyst and severe back pain

I am 35yrs. old with severe back pain and abdominal swelling.  The back pain became so intense that I decided to start by seeing the GYN since it was time for my yearly check up. After the exam the Dr. wanted a vaginal U/S. The U/S showed I have a 2.5 x 2.5 complex echoic cyst on the Rt. ovary with large amounts of fluid(Rt&Lft). My ueterus measures 6.3 x 4.3 is this normal? My rt ovary measures 4.8 x 2.9 and the left ovary 3.2 x 1.7. As you can see the side with the cyst is larger.  When I left the office the Dr. had not explained any of this information and refused to tell me what the future might bring.  When I asked what if the cyst doesn't go away? The Dr. replied we'll cross that bridge when we get there.  This makes me feel like she's hiding something. What does a large amount of fluid mean and where is it? Will the fluid go away? After trying to find information I still don't have any answers. I think I should get a second opinion. What do you think? How long should I deal with the pain? The Dr. did not prescribe anything and said to call only if the pain gets worse.  Somedays the pain is better than others.  Today was a bad day. How serious is this fluid and swelling? My abdomin gets really big. The Dr. wants to monitor the cyst and will schedule another U/S 7 days after my next cycle. I have to call to schedule it.  Does 7days after my cycle mean from the day my period starts or 7days after it has stopped?  Please help clear my head I'm more worried because I have symptoms, if there were no symptoms my mind could rest. Help with understanding this is appreciated.

I am 45 and have been having low back pain for 5 months. I have had MRI's, x-rays, bone scans, and numerous blood test and the only thing they have found is a 4mm cyst on my ovary. I had a hystorectomy 6 yrs ago. My OB/GYN says this cyst can not be causing the back pain but Ortho can't find any other reason. I am going for US on Thursday. Also my abdomen is swollen, but I was told I was gaining weight from the Predesone. I as so confused. Now they sent to PT! I am hoping this US will show somthing so I can't get this taken care of.

My suggestion is to get a second opinion.    The sooner the better.  Statistically speaking, a cyst only has a 1 to 2 percent chance of being malignant, but it is a good idea to  study and treat all cysts in an aggressive manner.

As for the timing of the ultrasound, my doctor had mine done approximately one week from the start of my menstrual cycle.  This timing was chosen because of the lack of endometrial tissue (the uterus has just been "flushed out" in a manner of speaking.)  However, your doctor should have made that issue very clear and obviously did not do so.

First of all you need to be asking the Doctor why the wait and see approach.  I wouldn't like waiting either and you can be more assertive with this Doc or definitely go get a  2 nd opinion.  YOur pain sounds very bad and I would refuse to wait.  I have a complex cyst too on my left ovary.  It is coming out on Monday with my prolapsed uterine fibroid.  Since the fibroid HAS to come out we decided he'd take out the cyst and send it all over to pathology.  Your cyst could conceivably clear up on its own but with the pain and swelling you are experiencing I wouldn't want to wait too long.  I believe it is 7 days after your cycle ends but call to make sure.  Good Luck.
