Flying on an airplane with an ovanian cyst

Hello, I went for a routine/annual gygo visit and my dr. told me she thought I had fibroids and that I should go for an ultrasound but it was no rush.  I went a week later (yesterday) and found out I have a 11cm x 9cm cyst on my right ovary.  The Dr. called me this morning and said there are some solid parts in the cyst as well as fluid and that I need to schedule surgery right away.  I am supposed to fly to Belize (about 5 hours flight) in 2 days and she said I should not fly for fear of it rupturing.  I want to go on vacation more than anything.  Does anyone have any experience or advice for me?  Please help!  Im scared.  Thank you!

SimplyStar said it well.  I'm so sorry your plans are being interfered with.  The solid bits increase chance of cancer.  It's still very, very low and nothing to panic over.  However, you want someone you know and have picked to take it out so it doesn't rupture and go all over.  If your gyno is doing the surgery, make sure a gyno-oncol is on call to come in if the biospy during surgery does show cancer.  Statistics show a much better long term prognosis if the intial debunking (removal) is done by a more experienced gyno-oncol in the case of ovca.  You may want a 2nd opinion with a gyno-oncol before the surgery just to be sure that it isn't a more complex procedure that's needed (but schedule it meanwhile).  I was in Belize this winter.  It was very nice and I'm sure you'll enjoy when you get there - but it will wait for you!!!

Your doctor is giving you very good advice, if the cyst would rupture you will have acute  pain,  and could possibly end up in a hospital with doctors you don't know. A cyst that size, and with those componets needs to be removed. There are times when health issues come up in life that make our plans change.  If the cyst would rupture also you are setting up a situation  that could lead you to have emergency surgery to clean the belly up.  Bleeding would occur.  You also need a pathology report on that tissue to check to see if it benign, which it probably is.  Your doctor was concerned enough to call you and advise you not to go, I would listen to her.
